You feel the smell of burning wood in your nostrils as you take a last look up at the enormous statue towering above your campsite. Although you know that it is just gently carved out of a massive rock, you can swear that it is staring back…
Today marks the eight day, and soon the eight night, since you arrived at the lifeless and colourless swamp surrounding the temple grounds. As you have been told numerous times since you set out on your journey here:
Attempting to enter the temple earlier than your eight night will result in a a fate worse than death.
As you lay down inside your tent, you can’t help yourself thinking of what is to come the next day. You try to calm yourself down by thinking about the journey that led you here - the paths that has led you over mountains, over lush hills and past waters stretching far as the eyes can see.
But all of this has almost been forgotten after your final walk along the seemingly endless wooden bridge that led to the temple, with views of dead vegetation and stinking muddy water stretching in all directions.
